Hi Fredrik,
I used to participate VR(virtual reality)-based simulation trials in the department of Fire Safety Engineering and Systems Safety in Lund University for the study of fire escape behaviors and usability of the related technology. Several graduate students developed the scenarios to evaluate the human behaviors and performances and evaluated the selected technology (e.g. animated light strip on the floor to show direction to evacuate) with VR experiments. The immersive 3D environment provided by Oculus Rift was literally creating the urgent situation for participants. In my opinion, VR or AR(augmented reality) are considerable technologies for the purpose of studying training and analyzing behavioral performance.
